Determinants of Health

Many facets make up what are broadly known as determinants of health. Penn Arts & Sciences faculty, in disciplines from sociology and political science to anthropology and public policy, are leaders in analyzing the social, legal, and structural implications of these factors. Some, for example, are investigating how social networks influence health behaviors and outcomes. Others are conducting longitudinal research examining how disparities and systemic barriers—racial, socioeconomic, geographic—accumulate over time to affect health across the life-course. Beyond that, we have experts in a range of other areas, like food and nutrition, and law and health.
